Hi,
start your summer reading with DSB! In the volume, I was amazed by the article about Monzo and its new security features. Too ordinary? I don’t think so. I really like that the features are simple yet clever and innovative. It’s the best combination one can aim for.
And as always, enjoy your reading.
Science
https://arcprize.org/ – Dataset of general intelligence test (AGI) hosted by Mike Knoop and François Chollet, which examines systems’ ability and efficiency in acquiring new skills. You can win the ARC Prize ($1,000,000+) if you beat the benchmark. The accompanying paper, describing the dataset and exploring the concept of intelligence from a computer science perspective, is also a great read.
https://www.databricks.com/blog/introducing-aibi-intelligent-analytics-real-world-data – The Databricks blog introduces AI-powered low-code dashboards. It runs in a smart dashboarding space and puts it all in a multi-agent setting as a compound AI system (reference from their documentation). Unfortunately, Databricks does not disclose detailed information about what is under the hood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8pRSuU81PU&ab_channel=AndrejKarpathy – Although Andrej is featured in nearly every DSB, his materials and videos are exceptional. I highly recommend this video on reproducing GPT-2, even though you’ve probably already seen it. There’s also a link to his GitHub.
https://mbuffett.com/posts/programming-advice-younger-self/ – These tips by Marcus Buffett should be read by everyone. From improving code quality to balancing between the speed of development and perfectness of the code. Don’t make it perfect; make it work before you go bankrupt.

https://lex.substack.com/p/podcast-embedding-insurance-in-digital – Maybe overly optimistic/hyped, but nevertheless the concept of embedding insurance is worthy of your attention. It brings insurance much closer to clients, their transactions, and especially loans like in the case of TruStage.
https://community.monzo.com/t/coming-soon-a-trio-of-industry-first-security-tools-to-help-stop-fraudsters-in-their-tracks/165249 – Monzo announced on its community forum (yes, a bank with an online forum) three new features to protect its customers and their payments: known locations, trusted contacts, and secret QR codes.
https://9to5mac.com/2024/06/17/apple-pay-later-united-states-ending/ – Apple is closing its BNPL feature, Apple Pay Later, which was available for the U.S. customers, to focus on providing loans worldwide through Apple Pay.
